 Security Papers
Document Security Papers
Genoa Business Forms stocks NewPage® Security Papers. These include Basic,TM DesignTM and Premium.TM They are stocked both as bond sheets and as carbonless sheets with a CB coating on the back. NewPage® Security Papers will deter or expose fraud attempts while providing instant document authentication. The following security features are incorporated into these security papers.
Basket Weave Patterns
Adding a basket weave pattern makes cut & paste forgery activities more difficult. The patterns are normally applied at the paper mill by flexographic printing in pastel transparent inks. These inks will generally be difficult to copy due to their very low pigment content and high transparency.
True Watermarks
During the paper's production at the paper mill a true water mark can be added. Watermarks are pressed into the newly formed mat of fiber, while it is still wet, by a dandy roll. These are referred to as fourdrinier watermarks. Watermarks are visible in both reflected and transmitted light. A watermark is one of the most important security features and is very difficult to counterfeit. A warning band can draw attention to a watermark.
Chemical Stains
A key defense in the prevention of document alteration and forgery is chemical alteration sensitivity. Brown, blue, pink or green stains appear when chemicals or solvents are applied to a document to try and alter it. It is a covert feature. Such tampering is accomplished by washing ink of the original document and replacing the information with fraudulent data. Various fluids are used to wash ink from the surface of the document. The type of fluid used will depend on the type of ink used to write the document. For example, an oxidant like bleach would be used to wash a water based ink, like fountain pen, from a sheet. Oil based inks might be washed off using various solvents.
Visible Fibers
The addition of visible fibers to the paper when it is being produced at the paper mill makes fraudulent document replication more difficult. These fibers are visible on both sides of the sheet in ordinary light and can be of various colors, lengths and densities. By putting an array of colors into the design that are different than the printed image one can greatly complicate counterfeiting by making it necessary to print many extra colors. If a number of documents with random fibers were color copier produced from one original document, the copies could be identified as counterfeit because the fibers would be in a constant rather than a random pattern.
Invisible Fibers
While invisible in ordinary light, this covert feature is most often responsive to ultraviolet (black) light. Because fibers are invisible, they are not intended to restrict photo copy replication. The copy however, will not contain the fibers and can be quickly detected by viewing the document in ultra violet light. Invisible fibers are a very effective layer that completes a comprehensive security system.
Working together we can preserve our environment for the future. In 1997 the Illinois EPA certified Genoa Business Forms as a "green" Illinois Great Printer.
